Raleigh is turning into a LEGO-land of sorts. First, the only LEGO store in North Carolina opened a few months back in Crabtree Valley Mall. And now, The LEGO Experience Tour will set up shop on the fairgrounds Thursday, Oct. 15 through Sunday, Oct. 18.

If you’re like me, you still enjoy playing with the small, interconnecting bricks known fondly as LEGOs. There is something about LEGO sets that bring out the inner-child in everyone.

LEGOs are no strangers to the Fair, considering we have a Youth LEGO competition each year. Last year, this amazing LEGO butterfly was one of our favorites. If you’re eligible to compete in the Youth category, you can see the rules for the LEGO competition here on page 314. If not, be sure to drop by and see all the entries in the Handicrafts and Hobbies building near the N.C. State Dairy bar.

You can get the full scoop from this press release,  but basically the LEGO Experience includes four activities for builders to enjoy:

  • The Construction Experience, where you can build your own LEGO creations and add them to the LEGO city.
  • Bricks and Beyond, which features PSP handheld LEGO games and retro LEGO commercials.
  • The Family Challenge, where teams compete for a timed, LEGO building competition.
  • Something the LEGO Experience is calling the “Mash Up,” built from a mixture of all the 2009 LEGO sets.

Stop by the tent located near Gate 9, and remember to bring your inner-child. The tour also has a blog, where you can keep up with the fun until October. Here’s hoping for a LEGO version of Dorton Arena…or at the very least, a LEGO version of deep-fried pecan  pie.

  1. The Lego Experience Link only lists the dates at the NC State Fair as October 17-18, not October 15-18 as published here. Which is correct?

  2. We double checked with our contact at Lego, and they WILL be there opening day, Thursday, Oct. 15, through Sunday, Oct. 18. Hope to see you there!
