The 2011 Tarheel Triple Classic began yesterday and will continue through June 18 at the Hunt Horse Complex. The classic features 10 full days of horse shows and combines the N.C. Quarter Horse Association’s Show, Jamboree and Little Futurity into one event.  The event is one of largest of its kind on the East Coast, and $200,000 in prizes will be given away at the main show on Monday night. Check out the video below of Larry and Gale Little explaining some of the events mixed with some competition footage:

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Frank Cox Productions will present a Gem & Jewelry Show in the Scott Building.  Dealers at the show will offer a variety of gems, jewelry, crystals, minerals and beads for show and sale. Highlights include rare minerals, giant sharks teeth and fossils.  The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

For those looking for a wider selection of unique items, antiques or one-of–kind gifts or decorations, the Raleigh Flea Market will be open as usual on Saturday and Sunday. You never know what you might find and with Father’s Day right around the corner, you may be able to finish your shopping early this year.

Also on Saturday, the N.C. Holstein Association will host its annual Parade of the Stars Show and Auction in Dorton Arena.  Last year’s event featured shows that awarded more than $25,000 in prizes and a cattle sale.  This year’s event promises to include much of the same.

Wrapping up the day on Saturday, the Carolina Rollergirls will host a double-header roller derby in Dorton Arena. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. and among the afternoon’s events will be two roller derby matches, a silent auction and a bake sale.  All proceeds from the event will support the Pretty in Pink Foundation, which provides financial assistance for uninsured and under-insured breast cancer patients.
