UNC-TV to offer sneak peek at Flavor, NC June 18; show highlights N.C. farms and cooking

If Flavor, NC,  was a real town in the state, I’d be thrilled to live there. The scenery is beautiful and green, the food is fresh picked, homecooked meals are being prepared in the kitchen, and the people are just so doggone nice! It seems like a place where everyone could feel right at home.

Thanks to the magic of television, Flavor, NC, does exist … in a sort of collective way. It is a compilation of all that is good about North Carolina, brought to life through a 30-minute weekly segment on UNC-TV. Hosting  the show is Lisa Prince, who many regular In the Field readers will know from her weekly Local Dish duties with WRAL’s Brian Shrader. UNC-TV will air a special sneak peek of the new show June 18 at 10:30 a.m. Regular episodes are slated to start running in September.

Flavor, NC is a 10-episode series produced by the Emmy-nominated team at BlueWater Media, a full-service television and video production company. “Each segment focuses on an individual farm or food producer; we’re looking to see what gives it life and showcasing the community that nurtures it,” said Theresa Dalton, with BlueWater Media.

It has not been difficult to find places to highlight, Prince said. “Actually, the opposite is true. We have so many wonderful farms and food businesses in North Carolina to choose from,” she added.

Among the stops and commodities filmed so far are: tomatoes, herbs and pork from Hillsborough’s Coon Rock Farm, rainbow trout from Sunburst Trout Farm in Canton, blueberries from Smith’s Nursery in Benson, goat cheese from Goat Lady Dairy in Climax, beer with North Carolina-grown ingredients from Weeping Radish Farm Brewery in Grandy, country ham from Goodnight Brothers in Boone, and milk and ice cream from Maple View Dairy in Orange County.

Underwriting support for the Flavor, NC series is provided by Got to Be NC Agriculture, the Currituck County Department of Travel and Tourism, Got to Be NC Seafood and Whole Foods Market.
