In the video above, I discuss three tips to help you best your competition. Another way you can stay ahead of the pack is through educational workshops offered through the department. We’ve had an overwhelming response for next week’s Protecting Your Business, Preventing a Recall workshop.
Our next workshop will be Oct. 3 and is geared for those of you with produce businesses. The workshop will feature presentations from retailers, food inspectors, extension specialists and NCDA&CS staff. Topics include the economics of a food recall, a retailer’s perspective, communicating a recall to your customers and the public, everyday produce safety, working with regulators, legal liability and recalls, rebuilding trust with vendors and NCDA&CS resources.
Here’s why you should attend:
- A recall can happen to anyone in the food business. It may originate with you or it may originate with a supplier, but you don’t want to be caught unprepared.
- Changes in science and technology are going to make identification of foodborne pathogens easier, so the incidence of recalls will go up as we get better at identifying the source of foodborne illnesses.
- Recalls will cost your business. They could potentially put you out of business, so learn ways to protect your investment and hard work.
- Recalls can be prevented. Food safety is part of daily business practice. At the workshop, you’ll get tips on how to achieve a food-safety mindset.
