In the Kitchen with Brian and Lisa: Sweet Potato Creme Brulee
WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.
The N.C. State Fair starts today, and that means fall has arrived in North Carolina. To celebrate, Brian and Lisa are creating some fall treats. They start out with this recipe for Sweet Potato Creme Brulee, which had Brian saying, “Yay, sweet potatoes!”
The dessert is made in three stages. The first stage involves layering a mix of N.C. sweet potatoes and spices with an egg custard layer. Next, the brulee is baked for an hour and refrigerated for several additional hours. In the final stage, the dish is covered with brown sugar and broiled for several minutes.
This is a great dish to highlight one of North Carolina’s top crops. You can see more specialty dishes featuring sweet potatoes at the N.C. State Fair this Saturday as the North Carolina SweetPotato Commission hosts the Anything But Ordinary! Sweet Potato Recipe Contest at the State Fair. More information about the contest and fair can be found online at www.ncstatefair.org.
